A Drive That Taught Me A Lesson

Let me narrate to you the story of my recent bike ride to the hills of Yelagiri. It was Saturday noon when I left Bangalore with a friend and headed towards Yelagiri. The weather was a little humid and we were confident that the 170 km ride would be peaceful, keeping in mind the heavy downpour in the city since a couple of days. We were just about to complete 10 kms when it started to rain. Although the rain was not heavy, it was enough to slow our pace and completely drench us. A couple of minutes later, we were driving at the Electronics City flyover and the rain was ferocious. However, we did not stop our ride and continued. We reached Hosur town in about 15 minutes and by this time, the rain had stopped and it was a bit sunny. The weather remained the same till Krishnagiri, about 45 kms from Hosur, and our clothes were partially dried. After taking a few minutes break at Krishnagiri, we headed to our destination, which was another 90 kms away now. We had covered just a few kilometers until it started to rain again heavily. This time, the downpour was severe compared to the one at the Electronics City flyover. But, our will was more stronger than the rain. We kept continuing our journey and reached our destination as per our planned time.

Let me not bore you more and come to the point!

The lesson I derived from this experience is that life too is like a journey in which we face different kinds of good and bad phases. There are times when there are clouds of despair above us. We feel broken and helpless. The body aches and the soul cries out for mercy. We must always keep in mind that just like the different weather conditions we faced during the journey were temporal, the trials and tests we face in our life are also temporal. We may get affected by them, but we should never lose focus on the destination and keep going. The conditions will not remain the same. It is just a matter of time that the clouds of melancholy will give way to the bright rays of hope and life.

As I said earlier, trials are just temporal from which we learn to tackle different situations. So be patient and stay focused at your destination. Verily, with hardships comes ease!
